A COMMUNITY ROOTED WELLNESS MOVEMENT FOR BLACK LGBTQ+ FAMILIES & YOUTH.
We create spaces where people can finally exhale. Where families feel supported, youth feel safe, and community feels possible again.

MISSION
OUR
Our mission is to create spaces where Black families can breathe, where youth feel safe being exactly who they are, and where wellness feels reachable instead of out of reach. We believe healing happens when people are met with care, consistency, and community that truly shows up.
OUR
STORY
RECLAIMING US,
began in 2018 as community work rooted in the simple need for safe, affirming spaces where Black LGBTQ+ families and youth could exist without fear, exploitation, or judgement. What started with listening and showing up grew into spaces of connection, wellness and care where families could breathe and youth could feel seen.
Guided by lived experience and community trust, Reclaiming Us is led by Johanna P. Perez and was formally incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2025 to protect and sustain the work. Today, the movement continues to create wellness centered experiences that foster healing, belonging, and hope for Black families and youth seeking safety, connection, and a place to belong.
